    exciting news !

    dear artists and art lovers,

We have some news to share with you! Because of some very exciting new partnerships and generous donations, our next Vitality issue will be even bigger and better - filled to the brim with the most beautiful underground and independent art! You will not be disappointed!

Unfortunately, this also means that we will have to push our publication date to sometime this winter (we’ll give you more details as we go along, we promise!). We’re very eager to show all of you what we’ve been up to, so please be patient with us! We are so passionate about this project - that will never change.

If you are collaborating with us on “The Birth of an Artist” issue (the theme will stay the same, which we are so excited about!), expect an email from us with more info! We’ll send out emails through the weekend and next week.

As always, we are so thankful for your support! Your lovely, lovely art is our inspiration, so keep the submissions coming! Just email vitalitythemagazine (at) gmail (dot) com !

vitality NEEDS you! fill out our survey here!

    • Dear artists, art lovers, readers, and followers,
    • Before anything else, we’d like to say thank you! We are incredibly thrilled and overwhelmed with the support that our little Vitality project has received so far. We could not be doing this without you, and for that we are endlessly grateful.
    • Vitality only came to life several months ago thanks to two young students, artists, and lovers of beautiful things. We are not part of a major corporation, and we do not have much power or money. All that we have done so far is the result of relentless hard work, passion, and the support of investors, mentors, and grants we have been lucky enough to receive from people that believe in our cause. We are simply a small publication with a major vision: We want every single artist out there to feel that he or she has a chance to show his or her talent to the world.

    • With that being said, we must ask for your help. After all, we want Vitality to be about the reader and the artist – never about compromising our cause or beliefs.
    • Let us explain: Most consumer magazines out there on the newsstand cost around $3-$7. These publications are heavily funded and earn the majority of their profit from advertising revenue. As you can imagine, the advertisers are usually major corporations: Companies such as Sephora, Target, and the like.
    • This brings us to a major dilemma. First, we want Vitality to be completely different than every other glossy. Since our very first planning stages, we decided that our magazine would be less of a magazine and more of a coffee table volume filled with pages and pages of straight up wonderful, mind blowing, stunning art. Needless to say, advertising can ruin this aesthetic. Having worked in the magazine industry, we also are very aware that advertising often negatively influences the editorial content of a magazine – an unfortunate but very real truth (for example, a dress may be included in a fashion editorial because an advertiser is paying for the exposure). At Vitality, we want to publish art because we love it – simple as that.

    • Second, in order to make a real profit from advertising (without revenue and funding, there will be no Vitality), we would not only have to have a major subscriber base (which, as a young publication, we do not yet have), but we would also have to accept ads from those major corporations (let’s face it: Independent artists do not have as much money to purchase an ad), which unfortunately compromises our vision.
    • Publishing Vitality is incredibly expensive (especially – as we’ve mentioned time and time again – when printing on recycled paper, which is something that we feel strongly about!), and we do not have a lot of resources at the moment. Right now, we charge $4 per issue with the idea that someday, we will receive major funding from advertisements. So here is where you come in: Please fill out this survey and let us know whether you’d be willing to pay more – say, $10 – per volume for a beautiful, thick coffee table volume with no advertisements – just straight up art (with four volumes a year, $40 a year does not sound so terrible for stunning books filled to the brim with fantastic underground and independent art, does it?). Please keep in mind that 10% of our revenue will still go to nonprofit organizations that support the arts!
    • Much love, and do know that we can’t thank you enough for your support,
    • Alex (publishing & public relations) and Debbie (editor-in-chief)
    • p.s. it would be awesome if you guys could reblog this!
    • p.p.s. if you have submitted work for Vitality or are interested in a graphic design collaboration, please be patient! We have a teeny tiny staff and are overwhelmed with the amount of submissions and support that we’ve received, but we promise to get back to you xx
